AMARCORD (I remember)

To write about someone you never met is not particularly difficult, when you have no personal involvement you just describe his job. With M° Lucchi, however, it is not so simple. So much life lived together, too many feelings moving and not yet fully coded, but I owe him, and then:

To you Giovanni : With Friendship Paolo.

It is not easy to describe a personality like that one of M ° Giovanni Lucchi, henceforth simply called Giovanni , so I'll tell you how we met, and who he was for me.

The first contact I had with Giovani was as a client at the end of the nineties. At that time, I had just finished my studies of bass, and to celebrate it, I decided to make me a present and have the bow, which, at the time, I thought I should have played thoughout my entire career.

I remember that I fell in love immediately with this item, although of course, all my friends, teachers and colleagues, took me for a fool, "Nice, but it costs too much, you have been cheated."

He cheated me so much that everyone, and I mean every colleague with whom I worked with during fifteen years as bass player, have envied it . Not only , but that bow , which unfortunately I sold, had written inside it the history of my future life.

In any case, I do not consider it as the first approach to Giovanni as a teacher, it happened a few years later.

It was the end of 2001 and I went to Giovanni for a rehairing , even though I was already thinking of doing something else.

Used to look at the people in front of him, which is not very common, behavior that he has also taught to me for which I am very grateful to him, he noticed my particular moment and began to talk and ask questions about my discontent.

Having quickly understood what the problem was, he asked a question that literally changed my life, "Paolo , if you had so much money and not having to worry about finishing it , what would you do?".

My answer was: "I would buy many instruments ."

I do not know why I replied with such an answer, I have always been fascinated by these items able to produce sounds, but I could have never imagined that they would have become my life.

Since that afternoon a beautiful friendship was born . I needed support and He came giving me strength, until things came to a rapid acceleration.

At the end of Summer 2003, I had a terrible road accident one of those from which you come out only with a miracle. Incredibly, my body had suffered very mild damages , considering the violence of the impact, the only really affected part was the right arm.

I have not yet understood if at that time I was more desperate for my broken arm, which of course would prevent me from continuing my job, or relieved because the accident had decided for me. I had to think and I do not know why the day after the accident, I called Giovanni as soon as I could telling "I need a shelter to think, could you give me a job for some time?".

At the time I did not know why he did like that , but Giovanni's answer was "Yes". I thought he wanted to help a friend in need, but in reality it was not that way.

I sad nothing about my beautiful bow, because I think it is unnecessary, I would only like to thank Ms Antonella Soffiantini for her engravings on this frog.

Although later on there were some disagreements, I owe Giovanni Lucchi , my Master, a lot. He taught me not only some secrets of my work, that often allow me to be one step ahead of many others , but, above all, he was the first one who trusted me and that's why I will always be grateful to him.
